Driver Qualifications

To rent a sedan, a wagon, a four-wheel-drive vehicle, a hybrid SUV, or a 5-passenger, 7-passenger van from Fleet Operations, you must:

  • be a University employee;
  • be at least 21 years old;
  • have a current driver’s license.*

To rent a 15-passenger van from Fleet Operations, you must:

  • be a University employee;
  • be at least 25 years old (exceptions may be made for individuals 21-24 years of age who have a commercial driver’s license);
  • have a current driver’s license;*
  • complete a training and testing module on van operation online.

Alternate drivers may operate the vehicle provided that the employee who signed for the vehicle is present, and the alternate driver meets the above criteria.

* If you have lived in Pennsylvania more than 30 days, you must have a Pennsylvania driver’s license. Out-of-state licenses are only acceptable if you have lived in Pennsylvania less than 30 days or if you commute out of state to your residence daily or on weekends.
