Registering your vehicle for Fall 2009/ Spring 2010 Student Parking:
Dear Incoming Student:
There is always a lot going on at Penn State University Park—concerts, sporting events, classes, and more. As a result, parking can be limited in the State College area—and the fact that you have an apartment lease downtown or a room assignment on campus does not guarantee that you will have a place to park your vehicle. You must have 28 credits completed prior to August 24, 2009 (or be a Graduate student) in order to apply for an on-campus parking permit or a permit for the off-campus storage lot (Lot 43). Regardless of whether you live on or off campus, parking is limited and is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Please do not bring a car to campus until you have confirmed parking arrangements.
Here are a few additional things to keep in mind when you’re deciding whether or not to bring your vehicle with you this fall:
If You Will Be Living On Campus:
Starting at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 28, 2009, you may register your vehicle online.
Please Note: Resident student parking consists of six parking options: Lot 22 (for residents of Eastview Terrace), Lot 81 (for residents of South & Pollock Halls), Lot 42 (for residents of Nittany Apartments), Lot 82 (for residents of North and East Halls), YWH for parking on levels 4 & 5 of the Nittany Deck (for residents of West Halls), and Lot 83 open to all eligible students residing on campus.
Lot 83 is located just off of Hastings Road. Lot 83 has two sections: one is located west of the Central Biology Lab and the other is located at the former site of Graduate Circle Apartments. These lots are served by the Blue Loop, which offers no-fare bus service around campus, to accommodate students parking in lot 83. View a detailed map of Lot 83.
Parking During Fall Move-In: You will be able to
download an Unloading Permit from the Welcome Week site that will allow you to unload in your assigned residence area during move-in. Your permit will be available for download by the beginning of August.
Students with permits for Lot 83 (see above), or the Nittany Deck will be able to move their cars to their assigned areas immediately after unloading.
Overnight parking will not be permitted in Lots 22, 42, 81, and 82 during move-in, so students with permits for these lots will be directed to park in Lot 44 and Lot Stadium West after unloading.
Students with permits for Lot 82 may begin parking in Lot 82 as of 6:00 p.m. on Saturday August 22, 2009.
Students with permits for lots 22, 42, or 81 may begin parking in their assigned areas as of 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2009.
If You Will Be Living Off Campus:
Starting at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday July 21, 2009, you may register for either commuter parking or storage parking online.
Please note:There are two on-campus options available to students living off campus. Students commuting to campus may park their cars in the commuter lots: Lot 44, Stadium West, and Porter North during the day. (Commuter permits are not valid from 2:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. in any campus parking lot, seven days a week.) Long-term storage parking is only available in Lot 43 for students living off campus and unable to acquire parking at their place of residence.
There are many other parking options available in the State College area. Click here for more information and a list of private parking vendors.
We look forward to welcoming you to Penn State University Park.
Sincerely,
Doug Holmes
Assistant Director
