Overnight Event Parking for Commonwealth Campus Students

Wednesday September 4, 2013

The Parking Office has announced changes in regards to Commonwealth Campus student parking permits and overnight parking on event weekends, effective immediately.

A review of event parking procedures for football and other large event weekends revealed that currently vehicles with a valid Commonwealth Campus student parking permit have been allowed to park in the parking decks and Red A lot overnight at no charge on these designated weekends. This privilege is not even afforded to vehicles with a valid University Park (UP) student commuter parking permit. As Commonwealth students are, by definition, commuting to the University Park campus, this is neither fair nor equitable to UP student commuters. As a result, we are changing the way we handle Commonwealth Campus student parking permits on event weekends.

Starting the Thursday evening of the first home football game weekend, September 5, 2013, vehicles displaying a Commonwealth Campus student permit will be charged the same respective overnight parking event fee for football and large event weekends that is charged to UP commuter students. Those fees are $25 or $20 respectively, depending if they are arriving on campus on Thursday or Friday evening. The weekend permit is valid for parking at the East, Eisenhower, HUB and Nittany Parking Decks, and Lot Red A at White Course Drive.

Students arriving on Thursday may purchase a weekend permit for $25.00 at the exit kiosk booth at the East, HUB and Nittany Parking Decks through midnight. Permits will also be available at the White Course Drive kiosk booth through 3:30 p.m. and at the Parking Office at 1 Eisenhower Deck through 5:00 p.m.  Those arriving on Friday may purchase a weekend permit for $20.00 at the entrances to all four campus parking decks and Lot Red A through midnight.  Any vehicles parked overnight on campus without a valid permit will be subject to ticketing and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

Please note that students with a valid Commonwealth Campus student parking permit arriving on the day of the event will be allowed access to available lots at no additional charge, just as we honor any valid Penn State parking permit for on-campus events.  The goal of this change is to address those that are arriving in advance of the event and parking on campus overnight and throughout the weekend, as this privilege is one not extended to University Park commuting students.
